Sony Pictures have thanked cinema-goers for making The Interview's limited release a success.
The movie - which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco and sees them attempting to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jon-un - has made $1 million at the box office, despite a limited release.
Sony's president of distribution, Rory Bruer said in a statement: "Considering the incredibly challenging circumstances, we are extremely grateful to all the people all over the country who came out to experience 'The Interview' on the first day of its unconventional release.
"The audience reaction was fantastic - the limited release, in under 10% of the amount of theaters originally planned, featured numerous sell-outs and a first-day gross over $1 million."
