President Goodluck Jonathan was on Thursday morning elected the Presidential flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 elections.
The President got 100 percent of the votes cast by the delegates at the Special Convention of the party held at the Eagles Square, Abuja.
He got 2812 ‘Yes’ votes out of the 2812 votes cast.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Senator Ken Nnamani maintained that the votes are more than the 2/3 ‘Yes’ votes stipulated in the party’s constitution for electing the Presidential flag-bearer.
President Jonathan, who mounted the podium at 12.45 a.m after the results were announced, picked Vice Presdent Namadi Sambo as his running mate in the 2015 election.
He said: “I stand before you to accept your nomination as your Presidential flag-bearer. I will give my all. I will not let you down. I will not fail the PDP and above all, I will not fail Nigeria.”
Picking his running mate, he said: “I want to announce that the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, a loyal and tested partner will be my running mate and Vice Presidential Candidate once again.”
Thanking the party men and women for giving him another chance to lead the country, he promised among other things, to boost security in the country and fight corruption to a standstill.
Assuring that Nigeria will overcome its challenges, he specifically promised that election will hold in all the states of the Federation and the FCT in 2015.
He said: “Inspite of our challenges, our unity remain solid. What we need today is to consolidate on our gains to secure our future. Only by united efforts can we defeat terror.”
“This government will continue to do whatever is desired to improve security. Our fight against corruption is on course and we will do more in the coming years.”
