Burkina Faso president resigns, calls for 90-day transition

Blaise Compaoré, Burkina Faso’s leader of 27 years, has stepped down following violent protests against his attempt to seek a fifth term in power.
In a statement read out by presenters on national television on Friday, Compaoré called for a 90-day transition to elections.
“In order to preserve the democratic gains, as well as social peace ... I declare a power vacuum to allow the establishment of a transition leading to free and fair elections within a maximum of 90 days,” the statement said.
A heavily armed convoy believed to be carrying Compaoré was seen travelling towards the southern town of Po, near the border with Ghana, two diplomatic sources and local media said.
The chief of armed forces, General Honore Traore, said that he had taken over as head of state.
France welcomed Compaoré’s resignation, saying the move “allows a solution to be found to the crisis”.
“France recalls its support for the constitution and thus for early, democratic elections,” President François Hollande’s office said in a statement.
News of Compaoré’s departure had initially come from an army official who addressed protesters in front of the army headquarters.
“As of today, Compaoré is no longer in power,” Colonel Boureima Farta said shortly after noon local time, prompting an outburst of cheers

How hilarious!!! Two Girls Perfectly Recreate Kimye's Street Style Looks.

Two San Francisco friends post split-screen photos of themselves mimicking Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s (and even sometimes, North West’s) fashionable get-ups.

The idea to dress like the the official “First Family of Fashion” grew out of happenstance, and the BFFs and co-workers, who’ve nicknamed themselves “Katye,”continued with their copying ways ever since. “The day I wore the denim shirt we decided to take a pic to do side-by-side,” Lee told Us Weekly. “The pic we found of Kanye had Kim in it, and Katie was wearing almost the exact same outfit so we took it together.

The likeness is uncanny. The girls’ outfits have managed to capture even the slightest details like Kim’s bent knee, Kanye’s cocked brow, and North’s deer-in-the-headlight eyes (and her double-wrapped Doc Martens – adorable). The duo even replicates the backgrounds of each shot.
And while Lee may be sporting imitation Bottega and Burroughs a pair of knock-off Louboutin’s, the lengths the two have gone in order to replicate Kimye’s outfits is impressive (and they have the social media support to back it up).

Apple CEO Tim Cook is Gay.

Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly confirmed he is gay in an opinion piece published Thursday, making him the highest-profile chief executive to come out.
In an essay published by Bloomberg Businessweek advocating for human rights and equality, Cook says he was inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King to set aside his desire for privacy to do something "more important."
"While I have never denied my sexuality, I haven't publicly acknowledged it either, until now," writes Cook. "So let me be clear: I'm proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me."
Cook says he's been open with others about being gay, but felt compelled to publicly come out to help others. "I don't consider myself an activist, but I realize how much I've benefited from the sacrifice of others," writes Cook. "So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it's worth the trade-off with my own privacy."
Cook's piece published days after the Apple CEO criticized his home state of Alabama over gay rights. "We can't change the past, but we can learn from it, and we can create a different future,"
Cook says the decision to reveal his sexuality was difficult, and hopes people focus more on his efforts running the tech giant. "I'm an engineer, an uncle, a nature lover, a fitness nut, a son of the South, a sports fanatic, and many other things. I hope that people will respect my desire to focus on the things I'm best suited for and the work that brings me joy."
The CEO also says he will continue to advocate for human rights and equality. "We pave the sunlit path toward justice together, brick by brick. This is my brick." said Cook.

Melissa Rivers hires Law Firm To Investigate Death Of Comedian, Joan Rivers

Melissa Rivers, the daughter of comedian Joan Rivers, has hired a New York law firm to investigate the circumstances behind her mother’s death from a complication during an outpatient throat procedure.
The law firm made the development known on Tuesday.
The investigation could ultimately lead Melissa Rivers to file a civil lawsuit against the clinic where her mother was treated.
“In order to fully determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the death of Joan Rivers, we confirm that our firm has been engaged by Melissa Rivers and her family,” Ben Rubinowitz, said.
Rubinowitz is a partner at Gair, Gair, Conason, Steigman, Mackauf, Bloom & Rubinowitz.
He declined to comment further or say if Melissa Rivers intended to file a lawsuit.
Joan Rivers, 81, died in a hospital on Sept. 4, a week after she stopped breathing during an examination of the back of her throat and vocal cords, at Manhattan’s Yorkville Endoscopy.
New York’s medical examiner determined the brash comedian, who helped pave the way for women in comedy, died from anoxic encephalopathy, a condition caused when brain tissue is deprived of oxygen and there is brain damage.
Following Rivers’ death, the State Health Department launched an investigation into the clinic where Rivers was treated.
Melissa Rivers co-hosted cable network E!’s series “Fashion Police” with her mother before her death.

Jessica Biel pregnant: Reportedly expecting first child with Justin Timberlake!

Wow, there is good news today,According to recent reports, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake are expecting their first child! Radar Online claims to be able to "exclusively reveal" that the 7th Heaven star is pregnant, after weeks of speculation and "baby bump" sightings.

A source close to the star has said, "Jessica is at least three months pregnant, and she's due in April!" Justin and Jessica have been married for two years, recently celebrating their anniversary by taking a scenic trip to New Zealand, posting their very first Instagram photo together.

When it comes to why the couple may be keeping this information under wraps, another source revealed that Jessica may have had issues getting pregnant before. "Jessica has had tense times in the past when it comes to having a baby, so it is not surprising that she is staying mum on confirming the news publicly yet."

We've heard it before with countless other celebrities -- these "close friends" dishing on their private lives to the press -- so we're still taking this one with a grain of salt for now. But if the reports are indeed true, Jessica, 32, and Justin, 33, will welcome their first child around the same time that our favorite royal couple, Prince William and Duchess Kate, welcome their second child. In other words, it'll be an exciting month for celebrity babies!

Congratulations to the soon-to-be-parents, well... tentative congratulations

Ebola puts Ghana's bush meat traders out of work.

Accra's busy Agbogbloshie market used to have several bush meat vendors but only Yaa Kyerewaa sells it there.
The 53-year-old says her earnings from bush meat keep her four children in school and she laments the sudden loss of business as public health officials warn that bush meat may be contaminated with the dreaded Ebola virus.
"Bush meat is healthy. I usually eat it as a special food on Sundays," she said. "We have been consuming for years only for it to be made unpopular by these needless rumors flying around. No one wants to buy our products now. It is sad."
Many restaurants in Ghana's capital no longer serve bush meat, of which a large rodent known as a "grasscutter" was the most popular offering. Hunters trap them in the wild or rear them at home for their meat, which is said to taste like chicken.
Health experts believe the initial cases in many Ebola outbreaks start from people eating or handling Ebola-infected animals. Then they spread it to other people through contact with bodily fluids. Fruit bats, as well as primates such as chimpanzees, are frequently cited as potential reservoirs of the Ebola virus — animals many Africans hunt for their meat.
Human infections in Africa have been linked to hunting, butchering and processing meat from infected animals, although none from eating cooked bush meat, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Ebola first appeared in 1976 in Congo and has caused periodic outbreaks there and in other African countries. This is West Africa's first outbreak — and the most deadly ever — and the World Health Organization warns it could get worse before the situation improves. More than 4,500 people, mostly in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, have died.
While stemming human-to-human transmission is the main focus for governments and international health agencies, African communities that hunt wild animals for their meat "risk future spill-over from species that can carry the virus," including fruit bats, some primates, and small antelopes called duikers, the Food and Agriculture Organization warns. Hunting animals that are sick or behaving strangely, or collecting dead animals for sale, is risky, the U.N. agency says.
Despite the dangers, bush meat is a source of protein for many West Africans, and for some it is a special treat. The soup of a roasted fruit bat, for example, is highly sought after.
Kyerewaa said she once had clients from all walks of life. That has changed with Ebola sweeping through West Africa and health officials stepping up campaigns to educate the public about how to avoid catching it.
"I am the only surviving bush meat seller in this market," said Kyerewaa, who said she has been a bush meat trader for years. "I can't stop coming because I have to look for ways to support myself and my family."
At her stall the parts of the great cane rat —smoked and salted for preservation — fetch as much as $30. That's out of reach for many in Ghana, where many live on less than $2 a day.
Rebecca Ackwonu, a Ghana Health Service Commission official, said it's hard to enforce any kind of bush meat ban in a country where many people grew up on it.
"We have advised our people to suspend eating bush meat in the meantime because of the risks," she said.
Some have heeded the call.
Theodor Semi, who operates a popular downtown restaurant called Semi's Place, said he won't serve bush meat until all of West Africa is declared free of Ebola.
"It has affected business, of course," he said. "It has become slow because most Ghanaians like bush meat, especially grasscutter."

Britain's David Cameron shoved in the street by member of the public.

David Cameron was shoved in the street by a member of the public this morning in a 'very significant security breach' - sparking an immediate inquiry by Scotland Yard.
The Prime Minister was in Leeds to promote the Government's proposed high speed railway line. But as he came out of the city's Civic Hall a passing jogger ran up to him at speed forcing Mr Cameron to move out of the way while his surrounding security team look on.
Within hours the Metropolitan Police commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe had ordered an investigation into how the man was allowed to get so close to the PM.
It comes less than a week after a lone-wolf gunman killed a soldier before attacking the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa.
This afternoon jogger Dean Balboa Farley revealed he was the man who managed to run into Mr Cameron without being stopped by his security squad.
The 28-year-old complained this afternoon he merely 'brushed' the Prime Minister only to be 'assaulted by half a dozen coppers in suits'.
The Metropolitan Police Specialist Protection Command and West Yorkshire Police will conduct a review of the 'incident', Scotland Yard said.
A spokesman said: 'The Metropolitan Police Service is aware of an incident in Leeds today, Monday, 27 October, involving a 28-year-old man and the Prime Minister as he left the Civic Hall.
'The man was arrested by local officers and was later de-arrested. The MPS Specialist Protection Command is responsible for the personal protection of the Prime Minister and will now conduct a review of the incident in consultation with West Yorkshire Police.'
Mr Cameron spotted the man running up to him and took a step back and to the left before security noticed and bundled the protester to the floor.

Michael Sata, Zambia's president, has died, say reports.

Private Zambian media outlets say leader died in London hospital after string of absences apparently linked to ill health.

President Michael Sata of Zambia has died in London, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, three private Zambian media outlets have said.
Reports on the private Muzi television station and two websites, Zambia Reports and Zambian Watchdog, said the southern African nation’s cabinet was about to meet.
Government officials gave no immediate comment. The death of Zambia’s president would necessitate an election within 90 days.
The reports said Sata died on Tuesday evening at London’s King Edward VII hospital. The hospital declined to comment.
Sata, 77, left Zambia for medical treatment on 19 October accompanied by his wife and family members, according to a brief government statement that gave no further details.
There has been no official update on his condition and the acting president, Edgar Lungu, had to lead celebrations last week to mark the landlocked nation’s 50th anniversary of independence from Britain.
Concern over Sata’s health has been mounting in Africa’s second-largest copper producer since June when he disappeared from the public eye without explanation and was reported to be getting medical treatment in Israel.
He missed a scheduled speech at the UN general assembly in September amid reports that he had fallen ill in his New York hotel. A few days before that he had attended the opening of parliament in Lusaka, joking: “I am not dead.”
Sata has not been seen in public since he returned to Zambia from New York in late September.

Unmanned rocket explodes during NASA launch

A private, unmanned spacecraft under NASA suffered a catastrophic failure when it exploded shortly after takeoff from Virginia on Tuesday evening. No one was injured.
The Antares rocket, which is operated by Orbital Sciences, went up in flames just six seconds after launch from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility. The rocket was carrying a Cygnus spacecraft that was supposed to deliver supplies to the International Space Station on a routine mission. One-third of that cargo was made up of science experiments.
The exact cause of the explosion is still unknown. However, the Orbital Sciences team wasn't tracking any issues prior to launch. The private space company says it will conduct a thorough investigation starting immediately, including of the debris that was scattered around the area during the explosion.
"It is far too early to know the details of what happened,” said Frank Culbertson, Orbital’s executive vice president in a statement. “As we begin to gather information, our primary concern lies with the ongoing safety and security of those involved in our response and recovery operations."

House Speaker Aminu Tambuwal Decamps To APC.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Today decamped from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the floor of the House of representatives.
The Tambuwal in a short speech at the end of plenary, said he was defecting to the APC for political reasons adding that the yearning of his people in Sokoto State necessitates the decision
shortly after the declaration Today, Mr. Tambuwal adjourned sitting of the lower house of parliament to December 3.
The spealer’s latest move is to enable the him seek nomination and contest the governorship seat of his home state, Sokoto on the platform of the APC. He has been angling for the opposition party’s presidential ticket but the entry of heavyweights like former Head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar appears to have blocked his chances in the party.
It was gathered that part of the game plan by Tambuwal and his supporters is to close the House and ask members to return to their constituencies for electioneering campaigns. This is to make it practically difficult for the PDP to get the Speaker impeached.

Australia imposes visa ban on Ebola affected countries

Australia has imposed a visa ban on countries affected by Ebola while the US military has started isolating soldiers returning from a response mission in West Africa.
The latest measures, along with decisions by some US states to impose mandatory quarantines on health workers returning home from treating Ebola victims in west Africa, have been condemned by health authorities and the United Nations as extreme.
This is just similar to putting wet blankets under the door when your house is on fire. The solution to this disease is for the World to put aside all sentiments and work together to care for the sick and avoid new contamination.

EBOLA: Stigmatizing Nigerians Must Stop - GEJ

President Goodluck Jonathan has urged the continued stigmatisation of Nigerians by some countries over the Ebola virus disease must stop.
Apparently despite being declared Ebola free by the World Health Organisation, some Nigerians are still being stigmatized by some countries.
President Jonathan made this remark,on Monday in Abuja in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati during the Foreign Ministers of Germany and France visit at the Presidential Villa.
Jonathan, according to the statement, said he expected that Nigerians would no longer suffer discriminatory checks and stigmatisation abroad now that the World Health Organisation (WHO) had certified the country Ebola-free.
He emphasised that there was no justifiable basis for the stigmatisation of Nigerians since Ebola was rapidly contained in the country and never attained epidemic level.
The statement quoted him as telling the French Foreign Minister, Mr Laurent Fabius, and his German counterpart, Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, that Nigeria would remain fully vigilant to prevent the re-entry of the virus.
This, according to him, is because the Federal Government recognised that the country will remain at risk as long as Ebola is active in other West African countries or any other part of the world.
“Jonathan assured the visiting ministers that Nigeria would cooperate fully with other concerned nations to stop the current outbreak of Ebola in West Africa as quickly as possible.
“The ministers told the president that they were in Nigeria to seek further cooperation with the federal government in the growing global effort to contain the outbreak and continued spread of the virus.
“They praised Nigeria’s successful containment of the virus and expressed the desire of France, Germany and the European Union to help other West African countries where the virus still remains active,” the statement said.
Recall recently, President Goodluck Jonathan expressed his happiness over the declaration by the World Health Organisation, WHO that Nigeria is now officially free of Ebola.
On October 20, the World Health Organisation, WHO declared that Nigeria is now Ebola free after no case of the deadly disease was reported in 42 days.

Victoria Beckham named UK’s top entrepreneur, worth £210m

Victoria Beckham has been named the UK’s most successful entrepreneur of 2014, based on strong sales, the number of jobs she has created, and her estimated wealth overall.
The former Spice Girl’s firm turned over £30m last year, a rise of 2,900pc in the last five years.
“It is her finely tuned business acumen that wins her the top spot,” said Philip Beresford, who compiled the list for business magazine management today. The list of Britain's top 100 entrepreneurs is ranked by turnover growth and job creation in the last five years, using data from Companies House, combined with the entrepreneur's wealth overall.
Fresh from the opening of its first shop in London's Mayfair, Victoria Beckham's fashion operation has grown from £1m turnover to £30m since launching five years ago, and staff numbers are up from three to 100 in the same period.
Victoria Beckham, who is worth £210m, has become a “supremely talented entrepreneur in the fashion business,” Management Today concluded.
She's got a real business, some design talent and some business nous," said Andrew Saunders, the magazine's deputy editor. "She gets a lot of stick for being a celeb fashionista but I don’t think that’s fair. She has built something real out of her own celebrity which is quite a contemporary story. She deserves to be celebrated."
The 40-year-old beat names including Amit & Meeta Patel, founders of pharmaceutical group Auden Mckenzie, Julian Dunkerton of clothing chain Supergroup and Tony Pidgley, founder of housebuilding firm Berkeley Group.
In second place, Amit & Meeta Patel's business Auden Mckenzie turned over £52m in its latest annual accounts, a rise of 373pc in the last five years. The firm employs 79 people in the UK.
Third-placed Mahmud Kamani, the man behind online fashion retailer Boohoo.com, is worth £290m. Latest turnover for his business is £110m, a 746pc rise in five years.
In total, the 100 entrepreneurs have added more than 61,556 employees to their payrolls, taking their head count to 158,189.
Since the last list in 2011, turnover among the entrepreneurs identified has risen from £16.1bn to £30.2bn, an 88pc jump.
"From the depths of the downturn until last year, these business heroes have been doggedly expanding, taking on staff and somehow bucking the all-prevailing gloom," noted Management Today.
Congratulations Victoria.

South Korea ferry disaster: prosecutors seek death penalty for captain

South Korean prosecutors have sought the death penalty for the captain of a ferry that capsized in April, leaving 304 people, most of them schoolchildren, dead or missing.
Lee Joon-seok, 68, has been charged with homicide. The prosecution told the court he should be sentenced to death for failing to carry out his duty, before resting its case in a trial that has taken place amid intense public anger towards the crew.
Lee was among 15 accused of abandoning the sharply listing ferry after telling the passengers to stay put in their cabins. Four, including the captain, face homicide charges.
The rest face lesser charges, including negligence. A three-judge panel is expected to announce its verdicts in November. No formal pleas have been made but Lee has denied intent to kill.

Brazil re-elects Dilma Rousseff as president

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff has been re-elected to a second term to lead the world’s fifth-largest nation.
Official results released Sunday by Brazil’s top electoral court show that the left-leaning Rousseff beat opposition contender Aecio Neves
With 98 percent of the vote counted, Rousseff had won 51.5 percent of the ballots. There are not enough outstanding votes left to be counted to allow her rival to catch up with her.
Rousseff’s victory extends her Workers’ Party rule, which has held the presidency since 2003.
During that time, they’ve enacted expansive social programs that have helped pull millions of Brazilians out of poverty and into the middle class.

*Change the man in the Mirror*

Woman, 25, murders husband while asleep.

According to Sunday sun, An Ebonyi man, Mr Onwe Nwogbagami, who had a practice of threatening his wife, 25-years-old Blessing Onyibe Nwogbagami with a machete each time they had a quarrel has had his life cut short by the spouse who could no longer take the threats with wifely humility.
Following the tragic incident, the couple’s young baby would now grow up without knowing the love of her parents if the mother is eventually convicted, jailed or possibly hanged for the alleged crime.
Blessing was arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command after killing her husband on October 13, 2014 with his machete at Ojegbe Amike Ugbodo, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
On the fateful day, Nwogbagami had in his usual manner chased his wife with his machete after they had a misunderstanding, threatening to deal with her. Blessing ran out of the compound. The man turned back and went to sleep in an uncompleted building.
According to the Ebonyi State Police Commissioner, Mr. Maigari Dikko, Blessing came back, took the same machete and hacked Nwogbagami to death as he lay sleeping.
Dikko said she locked her husband’s corpse in the house for two days and then fled to the village of her husband.
When Sunday Sun spoke with her at the headquarters of the Ebonyi State Police Command, gave her account of the tragic incident. She said: “My husband was fond of chasing me with cutlass whenever we have misunderstanding. Whenever he brings out his cutlass, I will run out of the house for him. On that particular day, October 13, 2014, I had a misunderstanding with him and immediately he picked up his cutlass and chased me out of the house. Later he went to an uncompleted building to sleep.
“Then I said to myself before my husband will kill me, let me kill him first. While he was asleep I went to where he kept his cutlass and killed him. Then I ran to my husband’s village at Ntezi Nkaliki and told the kinsmen that I killed my husband.”
On hearing the report, the villagers took her to the police station with her baby. Commenting on the incident, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Mrs. Justina Ogbodo said Blessing would be charged to court for murder. She also disclosed that Blessing’s baby would be handed over to Social Welfare Department to be placed in foster care.

Home sweet home! Meet the man who shares his house with dozens of deadly snakes.

Meet the fearless reptile-lover who always sleeps easy at night - despite sharing his home with dozens of deadly snakes.

Reptile fanatic Albert Kilian keeps around 60 poisonous slithery creatures in his tiny one-bedroom house - including a Burmese python and a king cobra with enough venom to kill a 571 stone elephant.
But his unusual hobby has almost cost him his life, as Mr Kilian - who is currently single and has owned snakes since he was in his 20s - estimates that he has been bitten more than 100 times over the last 35 years.
From these bites his list of injuries includes having his heart stop beating once, being paralysed three times, having his respiratory system fail three times and a finger permanently crooked thanks to a rattlesnake.
Despite these medical blips, Mr Kilian admits that he could not imagine his life without his slithery pets and confesses that his interest in reptiles began when he was just eight-years-old.
Then when he was in his 20s, he became the owner of thousands of slippery serpents and gave educational talks in schools and community events to educate the public about the dangers of some Floridian-based reptiles.
Mr Kilian, 58, from Homestead in Florida, USA, said: "Dealing with snakes is second-nature to me.
"They have been such a big part of my life so I just keep them around me.
"The biggest problem most people have with snakes is identifying a venomous or nonvenomous snake as they have very subtle differences.
wh.
"It's ignorance to kill a snake due to a lack of knowledge of how dangerous it is - even if it's venomous it's only trying to survive not to hurt people."
Mr Kilian is now well-known by Miami-Dade County's Venom Response Team who have come to his aid on many occasions.
He also keeps an air horn close-by in case he needs urgent help and even has stickers on each tank containing a venomous snake which states what the necessary antivenom is.
Today, Mr Kilian makes a living by extracting the venom from his pet snakes and selling it to pharmaceutical companies for research and scientific purposes.
He also works part-time at Everglades Outpost a local wildlife refuge where he helps to look after their reptiles.
But despite keeping his snakes purely for research purposes, Mr Kilian is also known to happily KISS a king cobra on the head in demonstrations.
